Course levels (Phases 1, 2, 3, 4 and R)
FAST has five on-track advanced riding levels: Phases 1, 2, 3, 4 and R. The minimum age is 16.
Phase 1
We do not teach you how to ride: you need to know the basics (accelerate, brake, shift up and down). You do not need a motorcycle licence, so if you have motocross experience you are good to go.
Phases 1 and 2
Take advantage of two days in a row. It takes the whole first day to touch base with all the riding techniques, learn the track layout and feel comfortable on the bike, and by then the day is over. If you continue the next day, you start with everything fresh in your mind and are ready to perform sooner and with more precision.
Phases 2 and 3
With at least a Phase 1 behind you, work on your riding for two days in a row on two different layouts: the 7-turn Nelson Track and the 10-turn Pro Track. Phases 2 and 3 focus more on track riding instruction and require better control and concentration. Everything you learn on the track can be transferred to any street bike. Phase 2 requires Phase 1, or track day or lapping experience, racing experience or another track-based riding school on your own bike.
Phases 3 and 4
Challenge yourself on the two fastest Shannonville Motorsport Park configurations, the 10-turn Pro Track and the 15-turn Long Track. More techniques are introduced in these phases, which often see higher speeds, and instructors are available to ride with you individually during your sessions. Phase 3 requires Phase 2 (or track day experience at Shannonville on your own bike and gear). Phase 4 requires Phase 3.
Phase R
Designed for track day riders and racers: two groups of eight on the technical Fabi track, with lots of track time, video reports, and exercises such as practice starts, deep braking, peg steering and a mock race, with Pro rider instructors. Own bike only. Prerequisite: you must have attended FAST before, with a combined minimum of 10 to 12 track days and riding in yellow or red on regular track days, or be currently racing.
