Frequently asked questions

Have a question you do not see below? Contact us.

What does a typical day at FAST look like?

Classroom. After registration, the head instructor starts with a 60 to 75 minute in-depth discussion of riding theory and skill development (Phase 1). You then suit up for the racetrack while the class is split into three groups of about 12 riders, each with its own experienced instructor.

Track time. You ride seven track sessions of about 10 minutes each, every one focused on techniques discussed in class. You start by riding with the instructors to learn the motorcycle and the track. Each session has three parts: a briefing by the head instructor, track time, and your instructor's report, which helps you correct mistakes and improve from one session to the next.

Final meeting. The day ends with a discussion, an award presentation for the top riders of the day, graduation certificates, and the next phases you can take to keep improving. See the daily schedule.

What does FAST Riding School provide?

You do not need to bring anything except your lunch. We supply motorcycles from Suzuki and Yamaha (see the school bikes), and top quality road racing gear: Arai helmets, Joe Rocket leathers and boots, and FIVE gloves.

What should I bring?

You can bring your own motorcycle and riding gear, or simply use ours; prices are adjusted accordingly. An extra T-shirt and a change of clothes are a good idea. There is plenty of water between sessions, but on a very hot day you may want a sports drink. Lunch is not provided, but the racetrack snack bar is open at lunch time and about $10 is usually enough for a meal, or you can bring your own food.

What about photography?

A professional photographer, Damian Pereira, takes digital pictures of all students on the track. You must sign up with him at the beginning of the day or at lunch time.

Do you have a course for older riders?

We do not have a specific course for older riders, because any older rider can join our regular program if he or she has some riding experience and is willing to learn. Our courses are geared to every type of rider and every rider level: young or old, male or female, sport bike rider or touring enthusiast. Each course is for 36 riders in three groups according to speed, experience and confidence, and only one group rides at a time, so there are at most 12 riders on the track at once. See the requirements.

Where is the school?

You ride on a real racetrack: Shannonville Motorsport Park, Ontario, 2 hours east of Toronto and 3.5 hours west of Montreal, just off the 401. See location.

Can I get involved in racing?

We will show you what you need to know to become a racer, and your FAST Phase 2 certificate can help you obtain a racing licence. Check with your local racing organization for its requirements.

What if it rains?

We run rain or shine. Some of the best teaching and learning happens in wet conditions.

Can I use my own riding gear or my own motorcycle?

You may use your own approved riding gear, but this does not change the price. You can also use your own motorcycle with approved gear; no insurance is available for your own bike, and for your first time on the track the risk may not be worth it until you have some experience.

Do I need a motorcycle licence?

No. You only need to know how to ride and shift gears.

How do I reserve a spot?

Register online; full payment is required at registration. How to book.

How do I know which bikes are available?

When you register for a course you choose the bike you want to ride, and the system tells you whether it is still available for your date.

What happens if I cancel after reserving a spot?

Please read our cancellations and refunds page.
